Bird Brains...no Grandma not us to Gone to the Dogs

Next came birds. Well it was obvious that since everyone loved us birds that it would not be long before we had a place in the household. We started out small like Mulan the parakeet, Don Meep the zebra finch, Jero the Love Bird, Altair the Indian Ringed neck Parrot. We are the surviving bunch there have been a few others but health reasons they have passed on. Altair was the last addition he was purchased with Lady with Suhayb's last paycheck before he died. Lady was a gift to Enass our sister in law and she often visits us when she is being loud.
Lately we had added chickens but they will fill another section. Dumb chickens! No pics on the comp for grandma to upload so they will come later. Keep watching.

Dogs!!! Why?

Aieysha has always wanted a dog so finally we had the place and the money and she knew what it took to take care of one by working with neighbors in our old place and she wants to be a vet to take care of us. Well on her birthday last year she got her wish. She wanted a puppy. Suhayb and grandma took her out to the city and they went to Souk AlHoot to find a puppy. She looked and the only dog that was male was this poor pathetic looking puppy sitting in a box on top. They bought him and brought him home. He was a little guy not more than a month or so old too young really but folks here dont seem to know better but he needed a bath and a few good meals. Here he is when she got him

he was little and black and superstitions here make him a hard to sell animal but we found him and his batman chest piece got him off the total black list.  He cried a lot the first few days and Suhayb said he sounded like the character Chewbaca the Wookie and since we had a Chewbaca before he got named Wookie. Like Cookie but with a Woo sound. She first thought he was a Bermeese Mountain Dog and was going to be massive but I turned out to be an Old German Shepard Mixed with who knows what. So I will let Wookie speak.. Bark Bark, Bark Bark Bark, lol no really I do speak human.

Aieysha is using me to be a example of how to properly raise a dog here. Everywhere I go since I was little she has showed people how kind puppies can be. If you train us properly we can be guard dogs, watch dogs, seeing eye dogs and so much more but here there is a lot of prejudice against dogs especially black ones so I got lucky I got a purpose in life and I didn't end up dead like so many other little doggies here.
Im 1 year old this week and hope to show you a new picture of me if grandma has one? Well she does but seems like dropbox is slow here due to internet limitations here so it will be maybe another day before she can post all of us

 I'm Mere the rabbit.

Leonardo the turtle is the one with brown patches. Michelangelo disappeared, we think the owl got him :(

the first of the chickens Tagrst (winter)and Amwan (autumn) baby pics.
More to come but time is limited today. See you all soon

Raccoon the Cat

Hello folks i'm Raccoon. First of all I guess I will tell you how I got my name and became a part of the family.  I was somehow wandering around the household when the family moved here in September of 2012. They were told I belonged to a family member and just hung around but really I had no home. I was a small little ball of cuteness looking for a home. Aieysha rescued me from the kids always taunting me and mistreating me and gave me a loving home. How did I get the name Raccoon? We you see she determined that I was a Sun Maincoon and a Calico mixed cat hence RA the sun god, C for Calico and Coon my breed. Nope I don't resemble a raccoon at least I have never seen one so i'm only going by what my mommie tells me. She gave me a bath and lots of good food better than the stuff I was eating that is for sure. Since I was little she took me upstairs to live and I have my own balcony to live on full of sunshine and places for me to lay in the sun and warm beds to lay on when its warm outside. I'm pretty much head honcho regardless what anyone else thinks cause every time mommie or grandma brings in a new critter I still have my way of telling them who is boss.  Oh, don't think I have been here by myself they have brought a few rag a muffins in and out since I have been here but I alone stay when others are re-homed or sadly pass away cause they just could not be saved. I'm going on one year old soon in September they think I was born around the first so they gave me that birthday. What happened to my family? I can't tell them, cause I was just too little and no one could talk to me then so I don't know but I have a good and loving home now.
Grandma will do her best to keep my stories told and fill you in on me as I get bigger. But for now you got other critters to meet but remember I was first!

2 Years in and Still not Settled

Like the title says, its been two years and we still are not settled here. If you have been reading my main blog "Trip of A Lifetime" you know where we moved to and why and some of the problems we faced moving here and settling in.

Regardless we have begun to collect animals and I hope to share some of their lives with you here maybe a place where the girls can help share in the stories of our pets and animals as we work towards our dream of a small place to call our own where we can have a few animals and maybe take back a lost part of life.  So for now I will introduce you to the members of our family as I can add pics of them and write some stories about them and our adventures in Homesteading.

Why Homesteading? Well we have always loved animals but where we lived you were limited to cats, dogs, reptiles, fish and birds. If you were one of the lucky ones you could own a horse or two but that required lots of money and rights in the area you lived in to own them. Being raised on a small farm as a child left a mark in my mind as a reminder of simpler lives. Over the years I have wanted to get that back. Moving here gave me that chance to change our lives to ones of quiet and calm instead of rush and hurry lives.

For those who haven't read my other blog well you might want to go visit it then you can find out more about me and where we are and what we are doing here. Where am I you say? Libya..to be exact a city called Tajoura just outside of Tripoli the capital of Libya. Didn't they just have a war or still in one? Well gee you been reading the news...lol sorry for my sarcasm but most people had no clue even where it was until 2011. If you at least watched a bit of news past three years well lots have changed some good some for worse. But its a life choice and yes its already claimed its life from me and may take more one day but don't all life choices?

But this is going to be a happy blog not the main one where some days I rant and roar about injustices. Here in this one I only want sadness if its the loss of a animal. I need to find a positive vent somewhere.

So lets begin shall we...I will start with the pets we have now and as we acquire them I will tell new stories.  I will try to start with the order we got them maybe let the girls tell a few stories along the way. It might take a bit to get images on my laptop since I don't use it as much as my tablet but for blogging this is easier and I can feel the keys under my hands much better.
I will start with Raccoon and move on from there so if I don't post for a bit well im working on getting images and a story line for her. Aieysha wants to be a vet one day and maybe all that she will get will be to assist one or be married to one but for now she is our animal vet and has helped take care of our little furry, feathered guests. I will ask her today to help me get some images of Raccoon put on a card so I can place them here and then you can see each of our babies as I introduce them.

Two years in and we have so much to do and lots that we wish had been already accomplished but life is like that you get a few steps forward and she pulls the rug out from under you and sometimes you fall down a flight of stairs and break a few bones other times she simply makes you stumble a bit and catch yourself and your back on your way forward. Join us in our new life and hope we can provide some laughs along the way...its a dream but the best dreams are those that come true.
